June 27, 2023 – Approval of Citywide ALPR Surveillance Contract
During the regular City Council meeting at 15900 East Main Street, the La Puente City Council approved Item D-9 authorizing a five-year agreement with Flock Group Inc. (Flock Safety) for $1,236,050 to purchase and install Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras across the city, and authorized the City Manager to execute all related documents.
Why Surveillance Matters
ALPR surveillance creates a permanent digital record of your movements throughout La Puente, often without a warrant or meaningful oversight. This expansion of the surveillance state disproportionately affects our privacy and the civil liberties of every resident. By documenting our daily commutes and location history, these systems threaten the fundamental right to move freely in our own community. We invite you to explore the rest of our research and learn how you can join our efforts to protect the privacy of the San Gabriel Valley.
